Our Principal
Mrs. Wilma Payne, Principal
My name is Wilma Payne, and I am the proud Principal of Camelot Elementary School. I have had the pleasure of being the principal since the start of the 2010 school year. I have also had the opportunity to be a teacher here at Camelot for eleven years.
I am a graduate of Highlands High School in SAISD. I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Following graduation, I worked in Alief ISD, in Houston, for my first two years of teaching in 3rd grade. I came to NEISD in 1995 and taught here at Camelot 4th and 5th grades for 11 years. I have 13 years of teaching experience in total. I enjoy seeing my students from when I was a teacher and working with their children!
I earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership at The University of Texas at San Antonio and became an assistant principal at Stahl Elementary for four years after which I became principal of Camelot Elementary School.
I am married and a mother of two with a daughter and son. Both of my children are in education. My daughter is an assistant principal, and my son is a teacher. I have three grandchildren that I refer to as my heart! They are 4,6 and 10 years old.
I love being a principal! I enjoy helping shape the lives of young children and being a positive role model for them. I work hard to make sure that the education they get not only fills their minds, but also builds their character. I love that my teachers and staff have the same philosophy and work hard to build a whole child. I look forward to continued years as a Camelot Knight and serving this community.
Title IX Coordinator & Campus Behavior Coordinator
The Title IX Coordinator/Campus Behavior Coordinator is primarily responsible for maintaining student discipline and the implementation of this subchapter and for responding to all complaints of possible sex discrimination and coordinating proper responses to complaints.
Assistant Principal
Mrs. LaQuita Dalton, Asst. Principal
I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve the Camelot Elementary community! I am ready to join this wonderful campus and look forward to getting to know our students, staff, and families. I believe that building strong relationships is the key to having a successful school, and I am excited to build those relationships and work alongside you to make Camelot an amazing place for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.
Education is my second career. Before beginning my journey in education, I spent 20 years in banking, where I had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles, including Bank Manager. Those experiences taught me the importance of leadership, teamwork, communication, and most importantly, building meaningful relationships with people. I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University San Antonio in 2019. and I am excited to be entering my 12th year in education!
My journey in education has been focused in the classroom, where I spent my time as a 5th grade ELA teacher. I also had the privilege of serving as a Grade Level Chair (GLC) and ELA Chair on my campus. These experiences allowed me to collaborate with amazing educators and deepened my passion for supporting teachers and creating engaging learning experiences for students.
I truly believe that every student deserves to feel known, valued, and supported, and that every educator deserves to feel appreciated, encouraged, and empowered. My goal is to help create a positive and welcoming school community where we work together, celebrate one another, and always keep our students at the center of what we do. I believe in the power of teamwork and know that when we support one another, we can accomplish incredible things for our students.
On a personal note, I am a proud mom of one adult son, who is also my best friend. I am an avid reader and love spending time with my friends. We enjoy rating and exploring new restaurants, attending Broadway plays, and traveling together. I especially love going on cruises! And if you know me, you know I am a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. I am truly looking forward to getting to know the Camelot Elementary family, making new memories, and working together to make this a wonderful year. I am excited about all that we will accomplish together!
